Experiences With God
John 2:9
When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.
Over the last few services, we’ve been talking about the first miracle Jesus ever performed. The key to experiencing creative miracles lies in what Mary, the mother of Jesus, told the servants: do whatever He tells you to do.
Let me remind you that Jesus is at a wedding and the wedding has run out of wine. This is an embarrassing situation for the hosts and there is only one remedy - more wine. The couple wants wine, the guests want wine, and the master of the feast wants wine. So Jesus commands the servants to fill six 30-gallon water pots to the brim with water and take a cup of water to the master of the feast. The servants knew that everyone, especially the master of the feast, wanted wine, and they knew they were taking him water, but they obeyed anyway.
The master of the feast received the cup from the servants and drank from it. The servants were likely prepared for a bad reaction from the master of the feast and were probably shocked when they realized the miracle that had taken place before their very eyes. They thought they had brought an ordinary cup of water, but the master of the feast was exclaiming that he had just tasted delicious wine!
I want to take a moment and focus on the real reason why Jesus performed this miracle. He did this because his servants needed to have an experience with God. Many people have never had an experience with God. We've heard about other people’s experiences, but we haven't personally seen a miracle take place. Or if we have, it was a long time ago. I believe that God wants to show us that He is the God of miracles, but not just for the world to see. He wants us to experience Him and His miraculous power.
You may be in a season in your life where you need to see a miracle: an unexplainable event. My heart for you is to have a real experience with God and His miracle working power this year. My desire is for you to have a miraculous, undeniable encounter with God. I declare that in this season of your life, you will have some significant events take place in your life, the kind of events you can't seem to explain. I’m talking about miracles so profound that if someone asks you how it happened, you would have to take three hours to tell them because you won’t even be able to describe what happened in a few minutes.
You need to understand that Jesus turning water into wine was not a progressive miracle where God sped up the process of time. Water turning into wine is an unexplainable occurrence. If I took a cup of water and let it sit outside my house for 1,000 years, that cup of water would never turn into wine. Never. Water does not naturally turn to wine. No, this is not a miracle of time, this is a miracle of conversion. This is a miracle of creativity. God took something ordinary - water - and turned it into something extraordinary - delicious wine. Hear this again: Jesus performed this miracle to show His people His miracle working power.
All too often we think in terms of levels, progression, and advancement. God can certainly accomplish any of that, but what if He really wants is to do something so extraordinary with your life that it takes you into a whole new dimension? What if God wants to perform a miracle in your life that goes beyond what you even imagined was possible? I’m talking about divine connections and open doors! I’m speaking of impact and influence! Are you ready for some miracles, signs, and wonders to take place in your life? I believe this is your year for creative miracles! God wants to turn your ordinary life into something extraordinary this year!.
You don't have to understand how the water turned into wine. In fact, you can’t understand it. So stop trying to understand how extraordinary things will happen. How has never been a problem with God and how never is or will ever be a problem for God. You don't have to understand everything. God can get anything to you from anyone, anywhere, at anytime.
What's stopping you from having a real experience with God today?
