Hurricane Florence
As Hurricane Florence approaches the east coast, we are hearing all about the destruction and the potential loss of life on every news outlet. Fear is being communicated; grocery store shelves are empty, and football games are canceled. We definitely should use wisdom when we hear news like this, but as Christians we should not turn into cowards and allow fear to reign.
Let me remind you of something.
You have been given more power than you realize. God has given the earth to mankind. Humanity has dominion and authority over all the earth. God owns the earth but he has leased the earth to us. What happens on the earth is under our jurisdiction. Jesus captured all authority and gave His authority to us, the Church, to use as power of attorney.
For example, we lease our church building. The owner of our building has given me complete control over the building to do whatever I want because of our lease. I have the ability to let people in the building and keep people out. If someone or something wants to come in and destroy our building, I don’t call the owner. Because of our lease and the authority I have been given, I won’t allow it to come in. I command it to stop. I use my right and authority to keep destructive things out.
In Mark 4, Jesus, as a human, spoke to the winds and waves and commanded them to stop and be still. In John 14, Jesus told us that not only would we do the same works He did, but we would do greater works!
You do not have to ask God to stop this hurricane because He has given you the authority to do so. You are to command Hurricane Florence to stop. Release your authority and speak to the winds and the rain. Command it to stop and fizzle out. That’s the word that I hear in my heart. Fizzle out!
You have the power, dominion, and authority to command Hurricane Florence to fizzle out!
Pray this prayer with me:
Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank you that death and life are in the power of our tongues. We speak death to Hurricane Florence. We command this Hurricane to cease and desist in its maneuvers to destroy. We command Hurricane Florence to fizzle out and die! We declare peace be still in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
