Did Jesus Go To Hell?

Have you ever wondered what happened between Jesus' death and resurrection?

It's a question that many people have asked, and the answer might surprise you.

Did Jesus go to hell?

According to Scripture, yes.

Psalms 16:10 and Acts 2:31 both mention that Jesus' soul was not left in hell, indicating that He descended thereafter His death.

Why did He go to hell?

Well, there are a few reasons.

First, Jesus went to Sheol to preach to the spirits in prison, as mentioned in 1 Peter 3:19. This was an opportunity for Him to proclaim His victory over sin and death to those who had died before He came.

Ephesians 4:8-10 tells us that Jesus descended into the lower parts of the earth before ascending to heaven. This descent was part of His redemptive work, fulfilling His role as the High Priest who entered the Most Holy Place with His own blood to secure our redemption forever.

But here's the amazing part...

Jesus didn't stay in Sheol. He conquered death and rose from the grave, appearing to His disciples and proving He was alive. His resurrection is the ultimate victory over sin and death, and it's something we celebrate as saints.

So, when we talk about Jesus going to hell, we're talking about a pivotal moment in His redemptive work, where He proclaimed victory over sin and death and secured our redemption forever.

He descended into hell so that those of us who believe in and accept His redemptive work won't have to experience it ourselves.
